A former Bluffton High School basketball coach is facing up to 2.5 years in prison after he reportedly stole funds from the Heritage High School basketball team’s bank account.
Adam Gray, 32, was charged with theft, a Level 6 Felony, on Aug. 25. Prior to his arrest, the newly hired head coach announced his resignation from the district and cited “personal reasons” were the decision for his early departure. At the time, Gray had been in the role not even two months.
Prior to being hired for the Bluffton Harrison School District In April, Gray spent five seasons as the head coach at Heritage High School.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Gray reportedly used the team’s sole debit card to make personal purchases between Nov. 2022 and April 2023. Some of the unauthorized transactions were made at fast food establishments, a golf course, a casino, an automotive shop, and more.
Gray appeared for an initial hearing in the Allen Superior Court on Aug. 30. He has been released from jail and is scheduled for a hearing in the same court at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 25.
