The Wells County Swim Team began its summer season yesterday night with a win over Adams Central.
The WCST has been running for over 40 years and features Bluffton, Norwell, Southern Wells, Bethlehem, and homeschooled boys’ and girls’ swimmers from ages 5-18.
This season, the team brought in 161 kids. Swimmers compete in age groups eight and under, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and 15 and over, with nine races throughout the year and a conference championship held at Jay County on July 15.
Practices began on May 2 for two weeks at Norwell and two weeks at Bluffton’s indoor pools, and the rest of the season will be held at the Wells Community Pool.
The Barracudas (WCST) in the summer swim in the Wabash Valley Conference with Adams Central, Bellmont, Blackford, Jay County, Huntington, Marion, and South Adams and are led by Stephanie Scott, also Norwell’s boys’ and girls’ coach.
In their first meet of the year, the Barracudas won 851-273 over the Stingrays Swim Club.
