City:

Friday, 2:49 p.m. Male believed to be under the influence would not leave property in the 300 block of West Wabash Street. Medics took individual to the hospital’s emergency room.

Friday, 4:42 p.m. 911 call from the 500 block of West South Street. Upon callback, a juvenile said he had his mother’s phone and accidentally made the call.

Friday, 5:09 p.m. Welfare check requested. The call came from the 400 block of East Townley Street but the report concerned an altercation between a mother and daughter on West Walnut Street in Poneto. Situation was calmed with no harm reported.

Friday, 5:51 p.m. Welfare check requested on a  homeless individual in the 1200 block of South Wayne Street. 

Friday, 7:03 p.m. Caller made a complaint of loud noise in the 100 block of North Main Street. A live band was performing.

Friday, 7:26 p.m. Theft reported from the Walmart Supercenter, 2100 N. Main St. Individual said he was having issues with the register. Store agreed to let him pay for the items.

Friday, 8:38 p.m. 911 call from Roush Park, 925 W. Silver St. Individual believed to be on probation out of Huntington County was reportedly intoxicated. Officers found he was waiting for a ride and was causing no problems.

Friday, 10:39 p.m. 911 call from the Budget Inn, 1090 N. Main St. Individual said he had made the call by mistake. No emergency.

Friday, 11:22 p.m., 100 block of North Johnson Street. A package containing a 50-inch flat screen TV appeared to have been tampered with.

Friday, 11:40 p.m. Suspicious individual, possibly intoxicated, reported on a property on Westgate Road. Caller requested extra patrols in the area until he returned home.

Saturday, 12:04 p.m. Officer requested to stand by while an eviction notice was served in the 500 block of West Miller Street.

Saturday, 1:11 p.m., intersection of Wiley Avenue and Johnson Street. Woman reported that a male had followed her to a relative’s house and was threatening her.

Saturday, 4:25 p.m. Caller complained about a vehicle parked in a handicapped-access spot in the 100 block of West South Street. The vehicle had a homemade handicapped sticker. Owner was notified to move the vehicle if possible.

Saturday, 5:13 p.m., South Main Street and East Wiley Avenue. Juveniles reported throwing rocks at the window of a shed. One of the juveniles reportedly lives in the house where the shed was.

Saturday, 5:59 p.m. Caller said another individual was given permission to use a lawn mower and is now refusing to give it back.

Saturday, 7:52 p.m. An individual is reportedly riding a dirt bike in the area with a small child on the handlebars.

Saturday, 9:16 p.m. Welfare check requested on a 14-year-old female laying n the street near the intersection of Washington and Union street. Girl said she was fine, that she had fallen and was walking home.

Saturday, 10:03 p.m. Report of a domestic disturbance — physical and verbal ­— in the 1200 block of Lancaster Street. Male taken to the Wells County Jail.

Saturday, 11:03 p.m. Several males reported to be intoxicated at the Walmart Supercenter, 2100 N. Main St. Store manager said he believed the males had attended a school dance and he did not believe the males appeared intoxicated.

Saturday, 11:22 p.m. 911 call from the 800 block of South Oak Street. Call was reported to be accidental.

Sunday, 8:43 a.m. Wallet turned in to Bluffton Police Department. Owner contacted.

Sunday, 10:46 a.m. Aggressive pit bull reportedly running through years, chasing another dog, in the 1000 block of West Central Avenue. 

Sunday, 10:52 a.m. Woman reported harassment  by a man whom she has a protective order against.

Sunday, 2:02 p.m. Report of unsecured premises at Hiday Chysler, 1791 N. Main St. Employee was inside.

Sunday, 2:02 p.m. Report of a possibly intoxicated driver. Individual pulled into the Wells County Lock-Up and was tested.

Sunday, 2:41 p.m. Welfare check requested at the Walmart Supercenter, 2011 N. Main St. A man and two children were at the store’s entrance and were believed to be foreign nationals. They were advised to move along and were given directions.

Sunday, 6:01 p.m. Dispute between two individual concerning mowing in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. No charges filed.

Sunday, 6:32 p.m. Individual threw what appeared to be a steak knife out of a white delivery van. Knife was collected to be disposed of.

Sunday, 7:48 p.m. Caller reported an individual in a black SUV dropped off a couch at the intersection of Beth and South streets and sped away. No vehicle found.

Sunday, 9:41 p.m. Water reported rising in the creek just east of the intersection of Cherry and Washington streets.

Monday, 7:10 a.m. Driver stopped in front  of 1791 N. Main St, Driver allegedly told officer her sister’s name but her ID was found. Woman was arrested and taken to jail.

Monday, 8:25 a.m. Battery reported at Bluffton Plumbing and Heating, 2085 Commerce Drive.

Monday, 919 a.m. 911 call from the 200 block of North Oak Street. No emergency.

Monday, 1:27 p.m. 911 call reported from McDonald’s restaurant, 984 N. Main St. Driver for a delivery service hit the wrong button on phone.

Friday, 2:41 p.m., North 100E and East 700N. Citation issued for speeding. 

Friday, 4:53 p.m., South Main and West Market Street. UTV complaint. Officer advised the juvenile driver he could not ride it on the road anymore and needed to find another way home. 

Friday, 9:08 p.m., East 300S and South 800E. Report of a vehicle trespassing on a field. Unable to locate. 

Friday, 10:16 p.m., East 200S and South 200E. Caller reported a vehicle hit a stop sign and left the scene. The deputy was able to fix it to a telephone pole for the time being. The Highway Department was contacted to fix the sign. 

Friday, 11 p.m., East Ind. 124 and North 800E. Caller reported a car and motorcycle possibly drag racing down the road. Unable to locate. 

Saturday, 12:36 a.m., West Ind. 124 and North 300W. Vehicle observed swerving and driving erratically. In a traffic stop, the driver provided an expired license. Citation issued for driving without a valid license. 

Saturday, 7:17 a.m., North 100E and East 1050N. Citation issued for 77 in a 45 mph zone.

Saturday, 12:18 p.m., residence on 600W, Montpelier. Report of an intoxicated driver. Complainant said her husband had come home clearly intoxicated and they got into a fight about him being an alcoholic. The woman said her husband had left in their car and frequently drove drunk. The deputy advised the woman she could go to the courthouse to file for separation and to contact the Sheriff’s Office when her husband returns home.

Saturday, 3:15 p.m., Speedway Redi Mix. Wheel fell off a vehicle. Wheel reinstalled and on its way. 

Saturday, 4:20 p.m., South Hoosier Highway and West 500S. Pick-up truck with a load on fire underneath a live powerline. Hoosier Highway was closed at 4:32 p.m. Fire under control at 4:53. Pemberton’s towed the vehicle and the Highway Department was contacted for road repairs. Hoosier Highway re-opened at 5:08 p.m.

Saturday, 8:30 p.m., Southern Wells Schools. Report of a juvenile sitting in the yard wearing dark clothes and a mask. 

Saturday, 9:56 p.m., Lighted Gardens. Complaint of loud music. Individuals made aware. 

Sunday, 7:27 a.m., 3866 NW Ind. 116, Markle. Woman sleeping in a vehicle off the side of the road. Advised she ran off the roadway and got stuck and was now waiting for AAA.

Sunday, 7:27 a.m., 3649 E 1st St., Petroleum. Reports of gunshots in the area. Unable to locate. 

Sunday, 8:09 p.m., Southwest Center and Southeast Wabash Streets. Mannequin tied up to the old bridge. Deputy removed the mannequin. 

Sunday, 8:25 p.m., 5211 Southeast Ind. 116. Loose cattle. 

Monday, 1:35 a.m., North 100E and East 800N. Abandoned vehicle with a flat tire. A note on the vehicle said the owner was coming back. 

Monday, 3:27 a.m., Pine Grove Apartments. Deputy engaged in chase with a vehicle attempting to evade a traffic stop. The vehicle turned toward Pine Grove Apartments and the driver began running on foot. K9 was deployed as law enforcement conducted a perimeter search for the suspect, a Black male wearing a yellow shirt and dark shorts. Deputies then made contact with the vehicle’s owner, who advised she had last used the vehicle at 10 p.m. The woman stated she lived with her boyfriend, who was inside asleep. Her boyfriend matched the physical description of the subject, but was wearing different clothes. Deputies requested a search warrant for the apartment and vehicle, which was granted. A search of the vehicle returned three red cups with brown liquid in it. It showed no signs of having been stolen. The vehicle was towed by Freeman’s. In the apartment, deputies located a bright yellow shirt in the washing machine along with a pair of socks, underwear and khaki-colored sweatpants. The clothing was wet, but still covered in laundry soap, indicating the wash cycle had not started. 

Monday, 5:49 a.m., West ind. 124 and North 300W. A deputy conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle travelling 65 in a 55 mph zone. Driver Saul Flores Cruz, 44, Marion, was able to provide identification from Mexcio, but had never received a license in the U.S. Cruz was arrested operating a vehicle without ever having received a license, a Class C misdemeanor. He was booked and released. Cruz’s passenger was given transport to Marion. 

Monday, 6:20 a.m., South Ind. 3 and West 700S. Deer accident. 

Monday, 7 a.m., North 300W and northwest Ind. 116. Abandoned vehicle with a flat tire. 

Monday, 8:50 a.m., 3338 Southwest Church Rd., Bluffton. Mannequin found on bridge.

Friday, 2:26 p.m., 6671N 100E. Citation issued for speeding. 

Friday, 6115N Ind. 1. Citation issued for speeding. 

Friday, 11:46 p.m., Farmers Merchants State Bank. Caller reported a piece of metal was stuck in the ATM machine and was worried it was a device to steal personal information. The deputy observed the machine, and believed it was a stuck credit or debit card. The deputy was unable to remove the card. 

Sunday, South Ind. and East 800S. Citation issued for 69 in 55 mph zone. 

ACCIDENTS

County:

Friday, 2:12 p.m., 5820 SE Ind. 116, Bluffton. Stanley K. Bone, 45, Montpelier, was driving a 2013 Subaru Forester southeast on Ind. 116 and blew a tire. Bone lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway to the south, striking a utility pole and continuing into a field where the vehicle came to rest facing northwest. The vehicle was towed by Lehman’s. Damage exceeded $5,000. 

Friday, 9:03 p.m., Ind. 1 near CR 350S, Bluffton. Kent Wolf, 67, Bluffton, was driving a 2022 Hyundai Tucson and attempted to turn left on into a driveway. Wolf’s vehicle was struck by a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck driven by Phillip Fosnaugh, 75, Bluffton, who had been attempting to pass the vehicle. Fosnaugh advised that Wolf had not used his turn signal, and Wolf stated he could not remember if he had used his turn signal or seeing a vehicle behind him. Both vehicles were towed by Pemberton’s. Damage exceeded $50,000. 

Sunday, 9:15 p.m., Ind. 124 at CR 500E, Bluffton. Melissa M. Davis, 31, Fort Wayne, was driving a 2017 Kia Forte westbound on Ind. 124 and was hit by a deer crossing the roadway. Damage exceeded $2,500. 

Sunday, 10:25 p.m., Ind. 224 at CR 600E, Jefferson Township. Jeffrey A. Alberding, 64, Decatur, was driving a 2023 Kia Soul westbound on Ind. 224 and struck a deer in the roadway. Damage exceeded $2,500. 

FIRES

Sunday 6:54 a.m. Structure fire at 11313N-100W. Southwest fire district and Ossian and Uniondale fire departments responded. 

Sunday, 1027 a.m., Covenant Chapel, 3550S Ind. 1. Smoke detector in gymnasium went off. Pastor advised all in building were OK. Alarm panel was reset at 11:10 a.m.

Sunday, 11:21 a.m. DNR requested a drone along the river near the Crosbie Bridge that carries Ind. 1 over the Wabash River. Liberty Township and Ossian fire departments notified.

Sunday, 11:51 a.m., intersection of 300W and 100S. Fire alarm from Peyton’s Northern north warehouse. Water flow trip riser, possibly caused by a lightning strike. Liberty Township Fire Department responded. Another call at 12:46 p.m. was a false trip as the system was being tested. 

Sunday, 1:20 p.m., 3817N-600W. Structure fire. Firefighters arrived on scene and reported the house as fully engulfed. Uniondale responded. Markle, Liberty Township, Warren paged. Several roads in the area — 300N and 600W, 600W and Oak Road, and Huntington County 600E and 200S — were closed. Fire reported under control at 2:43 p.m.  Wells County Sheriff’s Department was also on scene.

ARRESTS

Marty Alan Meyers, 26, Bluffton; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a Class C misdemeanor. Booked and released. 

Steven Coal Cook, 36, Keystone; probation violation, a Class A misdemeanor. No bond set. 

Lee Mack Breedlove, 33, Bluffton; two counts of domestic battery on a person less than 14 years-old, both Level 6 felonies, and aggravated strangulation, a Level 6 felony. Bond set at $75,000. 

Haley Lynn Chaney, 32, Bluffton; operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony. Bond set at $5,000.
