The Ossian Parks Board got a first look Monday night at the possibilities for renovating the baseball and diamonds that border Archbold-Wilson Park and the Ossian Elementary School property.
The three exhibits, as they were called, ranged in price from $1.6 million to $2.6 million for the four-diamond complex.
The three board members present — Jay Esparza, Ben Jones, and Jared Kurtz — agreed to have a representative from Engineering Resources do a further explanation of the proposals during the board’s May meeting.
The cheapest of the three proposals would keep what is known as the big diamond in place, which accounted for its lower cost. The price on the second one was almost $2.4 million and the price on the third one was $2.6 million.
“The next action will be fundraising,” Kurtz said as the board looked over the exhibits.
The board also discussed the upcoming concert series at Archbold-Wilson Park, with Esparza saying that the Aug. 12 date has been tentatively filled and that a band was still needed for the October show, which will be the last one of the 2023 season.
Esparza also noted that the amount contributed to the 2023 concert series is up to $7,610, up nearly $3,000 since the April meeting. He said that the contributions have been coming from Ossian residents.
The board also filled a vacancy on the board. Gary Guenin has resigned and the board chose Jeff Osborn to succeed him.
Osborn is known to the board as he was one of the individuals presenting Horizon Events as a possible vendor to serve during concerts. His company was named to do that during the April meeting.
