In closing their regular meeting, Vanover encouraged Wells County property owners to contact the assessor’s office with questions regarding 2024 assessments.
Vanover stated the County Commissioners have fielded communication and concerns regarding increases, and the commissioners will continue to evaluate how these assessments will impact the county and its residents.
Additionally, Vanover noted they were following recent decisions from the Indiana legislature and their possible impacts. House Bill 1499, which sought to offer relief from these increases, changed significantly through committee revision but ultimately passed.
“As fellow Wells County property owners, we too are evaluating our reason 2024 assessments completed by our Wells County assessor’s office and how they will impact our budgets and our families,” Vanover said. “As elected officials, we are also in the initial stages of determining how these assessments will affect our constituents’ 2024 tax burdens and the overall county tax revenues to fund important and essential county projects and county services.”
Vanover added that those who have recently sold their property can file a Form 11 appeal with the assessor’s office by June 15.
