You will be happy to know that we are putting the finishing touches on the summer recreation guide, and it should be going out to the schools very soon. We have around 100 summer events, activities, lessons, concerts, and more to keep the family busy between May–August. The list will also be posted on our website at www.blufftonindiana.net, or you can follow us on Facebook at Bluffton Parks to stay up to date on events.

Next Saturday, April 22, is our Earth Day 5K starting at the Bluffton City Gym at 9 a.m. If you live on Earth (sorry, no space aliens), you are invited to run or walk while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine at this no-frills, no-fuss 5K. We will recycle our old event shirts and give them away until they are gone. Sign up online at https://raceroster.com/events/2023/71581/earth-day-5k.

The five weeks of Senior Snippets start on Monday. We have a great lineup of fun and educational events, including Movie Club based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Tech Games, Health and Nutrition, Wells County History, and Crochet. We also have the popular Foreign Countries class, where you can listen to Norwell High School exchange students talk about life in their home country. Countries include Spain, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Georgia, and Romania. These FREE talks will be held at different locations in town, so make a note in your calendar after signing up. This month’s Theater Thursday will show King Richard (rated PG-13) at the Wells County Public Library on April 20 at 10 a.m. The film is about how Richard Williams shapes his daughter’s unyielding commitment to tennis and helps Venus and Serena defy the insurmountable odds.

Last year a group of students from Rose-Hulman reached out to the City of Bluffton to work on a project design that would meet the needs of their senior civil engineering assignment. They selected to work on creating a trail connection from the end of the River Greenway to the beginning of the Interurban. Also, they envisioned what a trail would look like going along the Bluffs of the Wabash River extending to the old cemetery on Hale Street.

A team of three students spent their entire school year working on this project to identify a path across state road 1, maneuver through the floodplain, and create focal points along the river by including observation platforms. They also designed an additional kayak launch, pavilion, and parking lot to round out their project. You are invited to hear their presentation on Thursday, April 27, at 6 p.m. at the Wells County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center at 211 Water Street. Presenters include Brendan Downey, Geotechnical and Construction; Julia McGuire, Site Development and Transportation; and Kenton Pardue, Site Development and Construction.

Have a great week!
