Okay, fellas, I know that guys tend to be last-minute shoppers, so here is a reminder that Christmas is tomorrow.
Speaking of the holidays, we have a few schedule changes that you need to know about. Open Gym is closed Dec. 24 – 26, and there is no Weekday Walking on Dec. 26 since City Hall is closed. We have also canceled our free Christmas Eve morning fun run today due to the weather predictions being too cold for runners, walkers, and volunteers to be out on the course safely. We will still have Farm Wagon Tuesday, Dec. 27, but not on Jan. 3, when Community Harvest is closed for the New Year.
Congratulations to the Gingerbread Contest Winners. Lorelei Becker won for the best gingerbread house in the nine and under age group. Lane McClure was the first-place finisher in the 10-15-year-old category, and Ben Lawlor won for the adult age group.
It’s that time of year again when the City Gym membership starts over. The door locks are scheduled to be re-keyed on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
New keys are on sale in the Clerk Treasurer’s office in City Hall, 128 E Market. Becoming a member of the city gym gives you access to the fitness room, locker rooms, saunas, racquetball court, and gym. Single membership is only $85 for the year, or get fit as a family and purchase a family membership for $105 for the year. If you would like to schedule a tour to see the facility, call the Park office at 824-6069.
The K-9 Kommons dog park, 805 W. Market St., will also have its locks changed on Jan. 3, and new memberships are only $20 for the year. The park is at the intersection of Indiana and Market street. You will need to verify that your dog has current vaccinations and is on parasite preventative at the time of your membership purchase.
Don’t forget that rentals for all of next year start Tuesday, Jan. 3. Call 824-6069 to schedule your rental. We will need to know the dates and times you are interested in, and payment will need to be made within two weeks of scheduling to finalize your reservation.
Rates for the indoor pavilion at Washington Park are $139.10 for four or fewer hours on the weekend or $85.60 if you select a weekday. If you decide you want more than four hours, the rate for the inside pavilion is $165.85 on the weekends or $107 for a weekday.
To rent just the Washington outside pavilion, the fee is $42.80 for four or fewer hours or $58.85 for more than four hours any day of the week. If you want to have both the inside and outside at Washington Park, it is $160.50 for four or fewer hours on weekends or $101.65 on a weekday. If you want both for longer than four hours, it’s $203.30 on the weekend or $144.45 on a weekday.
It may seem early, but we are already thinking about summer. Teens and adults are encouraged to complete a summer job application to work for the Parks Department. Positions available include pool managers (must be 18), tennis instructors, pool maintenance personnel (must be 18), concession stand supervisors (must be 18), lifeguards/swim instructors, concession stand/basket room workers (must be 15), general maintenance workers (must be 18) and a custodian (must be 18). Applications can be picked up in the clerk treasurer’s office in City Hall or found online at https://tinyrul.com/26b3f7r9, listed in the January events on the park’s page. All applicants will be contacted by spring break to let you know the outcome of the parks board’s decision.
We want to send a huge thank you to the Bargain Hut and TTG Equipment for their recent donation to Rock Steady Boxing Bluffton. We appreciate you and your continued support of our program.
May this season be full of light and laughter for you and your family.
Merry Christmas!
