Friday, 4:33 p.m., Walmart Supercenter, 2100 N. Main St. Two men inside the store who had been flagged by other Walmart Stores in Michigan and Indiana as being thieves. Officers responded but the two had left.

Friday, 5:10 p.m., 1700 block of South Sutton Circle. Caller reported being threatened by someone her son had sold a vacuum cleaner to. The people making the threats claimed the machine did not work. They returned it and she gave them back their money but she still felt threatened.

Saturday, 12:09 a.m., Main Street at Arnold Street. Bluffton police officer pulled over a 2014 Jeep Patriot and arrested the driver, Michael Wayne Springer, 36, Connersville, for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class A misdemeanor; operating a motor vehicle without insurance, a Class A infraction; and unsafe lane movement, a Class C infraction. Bond set at $2,000. Springer allegedly admitted to the investigating officer he had been vaping with a THC cartridge in the vape pen while he was driving. He reportedly handed the officer the vape pen. An officer searched the vehicle and reportedly located an e-liquid container labeled “Twisted Galactic Jack” with a sub-label of “100 percent cannabis.” Officers also reportedly located a bag with marijuana cigarettes and marijuana vaping cartridges. The cartridges and cigarettes reportedly had been purchased by Springer from a marijuana dispensary called Fire Creek in Battlecreek, Mich. Springer has a prior conviction in Fayette Superior Court for possession of marijuana from Oct. 26, 2015.

Saturday, 9:08 a.m., residence in the 500 block of Kathryn Circle in the Maple Grove Estates mobile home park. Report of an unresponsive 70-year-old male. Bluffton Fire Department first responders, Wells County EMS and Bluffton police dispatched. Wells County coroner contacted.

Sunday, 1:54 p.m., Walmart Supercenter, 2100 N. Main St. Report of a theft.

Sunday, 2:46 p.m., residence on North Oak Street Extended. Possible breaking and entering.

Sunday, 6:32 p.m., 400 block of West Wiley Avenue. Burglar alarm. Officers responded. Officers responded. Alarm tripped accidentally.

Sunday, 8:48 p.m., Main Street at Capri Court. Someone abandoned a propane tank on the corner. Bluffton Fire Department disposed of the tank.

Friday, 3:22 p.m., Ind. 1 north of 400N. Report of a lamb running about in the road creating a traffic hazard. Deputy located the lamb, rounded it up and took it to the Wells County Animal Shelter.

Friday, 9:34 p.m., Silo Farms mobile home park, 11080N-Ind. 1. Verbal altercation between a man and a woman. Deputies responded. Situation calmed. 

Sunday, 6 p.m., residence on 400N west of Ind. 1. Caller reported hearing explosions about 20 minutes prior to the call. The caller observed that the explosions occurred twice in two days. Deputy responded but did not see or hear any explosions or anything exploded.

Monday, 9:12 a.m., residence on 500W south of 700S. Caller reported neighbor’s dog came onto his father’s property and attacked his father’s cat.

Friday, 2 p.m., Co Co China restaurant parking lot, 2020 N. Main St. Parked 2022 Honda Accord registered to Donald N. Ferrell, Ossian, hit by a hit-and-run driver. Car sustained more than $1,000 damage.

Saturday, 11:57 p.m., Wabash Street at Johnson Street. Virginia M. Ostrander, 65, Bluffton, was southbound on Johnson Street in a 2012 Dodge Journey. She stopped and then entered the intersection and crashed into the side of a 2018 Subaru Legacy eastbound on Wabash Street driven by Amber R. Dates, 45, Fort Wayne. Damage exceeded $5,000.

Monday, 10:56 a.m. Bluffton Regional Medical Center parking lot, 303 S. Main St. William S. Swathwood, 18, Ossian, backed a 2005 Pontiac Vibe out of a parking space and struck a parked 2013 Ford Edge registered to Rinda S. Harnish, rural Bluffton. The Edge was reportedly parked in a no parking zone at the time of the crash. Damage estimated at less than $1,000.

Friday, 6:10 p.m., Ind. 124 near 200W. Joshua A. Brown, 39, Huntington, hit a deer with a 2016 Honda Civic. Damage to the car exceeded $2,500.

Saturday, 12:30 a.m., Division Road at Ind. 301. Jefferson W. Hunt, 64, Bluffton, hit one of 10 deer that ran in front of his 2011 Ford Fusion. Damage to the car exceeded $1,000.

Monday, 10:27 a.m., Norwell High School, 1100E-U.S. 224. Brandon W. Birch, 43, rural Decatur, backed a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with a slat spreader owned by Northern Wells Community Schools, 312 N. Jefferson St., Ossian, into a parked 1998 Chevrolet Camaro registered to Robyn E. Leach, Huntington. Damage exceeded $2,500.

Monday, 10:55 a.m., U.S. 224 at 300W. Collision between a box truck and a pickup truck. No one injured. No further details available.

Saturday, 5:41 a.m., 700 block of North Jefferson St. A Li, 49, Fort Wayne, was driving a 2018 Toyota Rav4 north on Jefferson Street when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, the vehicle crossed the center line, struck a mailbox owned by Gregory Mishler, 613 N. Jefferson St., drove through the front yard of Darrell and Tracy Reynolds, 703 N. Jefferson St., clipped an American Electric Power utility pole, shifting it four inches and breaking the top crossbar, and hit a concrete barrier at the residence of Douglas and Theresa Hoag, 705 N. Jefferson St. The Rav4 then rolled onto the driver’s side trapping Li inside. Ossian Fire Rescue and Wells County EMS were dispatched to the scene. Li suffered a hand fracture but declined transport to the hospital by ambulance, choosing to be taken by a relative instead to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash as Li reportedly blew a .084 percent alcohol concentration on a Breathalyzer test, which is slightly above Indiana’s legal limit for intoxication of .08 percent. A blood test was also performed with any charges against Li pending the results of that test. Damage exceeded $2,500.

FIRE RUNS

Sunday, 5:04 p.m., rental property at 227 W. Wiley Avenue. Carbon monoxide detector alarm. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. Carbon monoxide was detected in the residence at varying levels, the highest 50 parts per million. Source was traced to the furnace in the home. The house was aired out and tenants were checked out by Wells County EMS. Landlord, ADT, LLC of Louisville, Ky., advised to contact heating and air conditioning contractor.

Sunday, 8:33 p.m., smell of smoke in an apartment at 70 Capri Court Apartment B. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. Apartment was checked but no smoke or hot spots detected. 

ARRESTS

Braxton Lowell Williams, 19, Matthews; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. Bond set at $1,000.

Lonnie Dewayne Sewell, 43, Michigan City; failure to appear in court. No bond set.
