City:

Friday, 2:35 p.m., residence on Clark Avenue. Dispute between neighbors. 

Friday, 5:40 p.m., residence on West Cherry Street. Juvenile yelling and fighting. Officer was able to calm juvenile and they took their prescribed medicine. Advised parent the juvenile could be transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center if needed. 

Friday, 10:07 p.m., residence on Pine Grove Court. Report of possible unsafe burn. Fire determined to be in a fire pit.

Saturday, 12:45 a.m., North Main Street at Premier Avenue. Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a Toyota Sienna van after clocking it at 56 mph-45 zone, and arrested the driver, David John Kahn, 19, rural Bluffton, on charges of minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage, a Class C misdemeanor; operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalency of greater than .08 percent but less than .15 percent, a Class C misdemeanor; and  operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor. Bond was set at $1,500. Kahn reportedly failed field sobriety tests, smelled of alcohol and blew a .138 percent alcohol concentration equivalency on a certified breath test at the Wells County Jail, which is well in excess of Indiana’s legal limit for intoxication of .08 percent.  Reportedly in plain view were multiple cases of alcohol in the rear of the vehicle, including Jack Daniels, Coors Light and Busch Lite beer, as well as two open and empty bottles of Jack Daniels Country Cocktail behind the passenger seat of the vehicle. Kahn was also cited for open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, a Class C infraction, speeding, a Class C infraction, and because vaping products were also allegedly found by investigating deputies in he vehicle he was charged with possession of an e-cigarette by a minor, a Class C infraction

Saturday, 9:58 a.m., residence on Spring Street. Found wallet. 

Saturday, 12:23 p.m., caller reported theft of her cell phone from her car had occurred two days prior. Sheriff’s deputy able to successfully “ping” the phone at a residence in the Bluffton Woods mobile home park. Search warrant for the mobile home obtained. Information taken for a report. 

Saturday, 1:04 p.m., residence in the 500 block of South Indiana Street. Report of a shouting and shoving match between a man and woman in front of the residence. Officers and a sheriff’s deputy responded. Situation calmed. No one arrested.. 

Saturday, 1:51 p.m., Farmers and Merchants State Bank. Security alarm. Unable to make contact. Determined to be triggered by cleaning crew.

Saturday, 2:36 p.m., Main Street at Spring Street. Report that a Lowe’s box truck struck the stop sign on the southwest corner and damaged Pump 6 at the Pak-A-Sak convenience store and then left the scene.

Saturday, 2:39 p.m., residence on Dougherty Street. Requested police presence while retrieving belongings from separated spouse. 

Saturday, 5:45 p.m., residence on South Jersey Street. Man breaking household items and assaulted woman. Jason Morlan arrested for domestic battery. 

Saturday, 8:50 p.m., residence on Central Avenue. Vehicle blocking roadway. Vehicle towed by Freeman’s.

Saturday, 9:07 p.m., Walmart Supercenter. Two semis without trailers needing removed.

Saturday, 9:13 p.m., residence on Central Avenue. Juvenile alcohol offense.

Saturday, 9:32 p.m., Budget Inn, 1090 N. Main St. Loud argument between a husband and wife. Law enforcement responded. The husband had left before they arrived.

Sunday, 1:55 a.m., Dairy Queen. Back door open. Employee found inside.

Sunday, 5:22 a.m., Shortstop. Phone reported stolen.

Sunday, 10 a.m., First Baptist Church. Puppy abandoned and tied to the railing of the church. Puppy transported to the animal shelter.

Sunday, 10:21 a.m., Landmark Recovery. Man reporting he had not been able to retrieve his personal items. 

Sunday, 11:32 a.m., Bluffton Police Department. Request to have officer speak with juvenile about lying to their mother and sneaking out.

Sunday, 11:52 a.m., residence on South Street. Two pit bulls acting aggressively. Owner contacted and retrieved the dogs.

Sunday, 7:43 p.m., residence on East South Street. Parents located a vape pen in their teen’s room. Spoke to juvenile about vaping and collected the pen to destroy. 

Monday, 12:31 a.m., Super Wash. Vacuum knocked over and concrete busted. Owner notified and said he would review security cameras. 

Monday, 7:40 a.m., residence on Kathryn Street. School resource officer called to assist parent with child refusing to go to school. Child reported to be sick. 

Monday, 9:13 a.m., 1169 North Main Street. Abandoned vehicle. 

County:

Thursday, noon, Markle Health & Rehabilitation, 170 N. Tracy St., Markle. Sheriff’s deputies requested on a report of a visitor being unruly and refusing to wear a mask.

Thursday, 1:39 p.m., Ind. 218 at 200E. Report of a woman suffering from dementia had gotten out of a vehicle that was being driven by someone else and was refusing to get back into the vehicle. Sheriff’s deputy dispatched. The woman eventually agreed to get back into the vehicle.

Friday, 12:07 a.m., residence on 100W north of 500N near Uniondale. Burglar alarm. Sheriff’s deputy responded. Apparently the alarm was triggered by a 15-year-old girl who was sneaking back into her house after a friend took her to Fort Wayne to see a boy that she had been forbidden by her parents to see. The girl reportedly re-entered the house  via the roof and a ladder. The girl’s mother agreed to handle the matter as a discipline issue.

Friday, 1:51 a.m., 300W north of 1000N. Markle police officer pulled over a vehicle after performing a license plate check on it and discovering the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. Jesse Bernard Jackson II, 43, Fort Wayne, was charged with driving while suspended with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class A misdemeanor. Released on his own recognizance.

Friday, 2:35 a.m., 300W north of the Wabash River bridge. Sheriff’s deputy came across a pickup truck abandoned partially on the road with a broken front axel and had the truck towed because it presented a traffic hazard.

Friday, 10:24 a.m., residence in the 100 block of Hall Street, Markle. Report of a physical altercation between an adult brother and sister. Sheriff’s deputies responded. Situation calmed. Information taken for a report.

Friday, 3:14 p.m., 200W near 800N. Report of a deer walking slowly in circles with its tongue hanging out creating a traffic hazard. Sheriff’s deputy responded and discovered that the deer had been shot with a slug imbedded behind its left ear. Sheriff’s deputy put the deer down.

Friday, 5:06 p.m., stop sign at the intersection of 250S and 600E knocked over.

Friday, 8:29 p.m., residence on 500S east of 300E. Burglar alarm reported by alarm company. Sheriff’s deputy responded. It was determined that the burglar alarm had been wired incorrectly and the sump pump alarm at the residence was presenting itself as a burglar alarm.

Saturday, 8:37 p.m., 300W near 1200S. Report of a shirtless man walking on 300W yelling and cussing. Montpelier police officer located the man and gave him a ride into Montpelier.

Sunday, 12:14 p.m., residence on 100E north of 300N. Verbal altercation. Sheriff’s deputies responded. One half of the altercation left before deputies arrived. A deputy located the vehicle the man was driving in the parking lot of the Norwell school complex and spoke with him.

Sunday, 8:12 p.m., 300S west of 100W. Deer struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The deer was badly injured but still alive. Sheriff’s deputy used his department issued sidearm put the deer down.

Monday, 8:04 a.m. North Clark Street at Windridge Drive, Markle. Markle Town Marshal pulled over a vehicle and arrested Carlos Sosa, 29, Fort Wayne, on charges of possession of marijuana, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle while never having obtained a driver’s license, a Class A misdemeanor.  Sosa was released on his own recognizance.

Monday, 11:30 a.m., residence on Miller Street in Uniondale. Woman reported theft of debit card and driver’s license from residence.

Ossian:

Friday, 4:04 p.m., residence in the 600 block of Shady Lane. Report of a man threatening another at the residence. Ossian police and sheriff’s deputy responded.

ACCIDENTS

City:

Friday, 11:53 p.m., 1717 Lancaster Street. Cheyenne Schearer, 39, Bluffton was backing a 2006 GMC Envoy out of a parking space and failed to see a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado parked in the row behind her. Damage exceeded $1,000.

County:

Friday, 7:03 a.m., Ind. 1 north of 500N. Landon K. Daniel, 16, rural Roanoke, hit a deer with his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. Damage to the pickup truck exceeded $5,000. Daniel suffered a minor arm injury in the crash and Wells County EMS was requested to come to the scene. Daniel was evaluated at the scene by medics but declined transport by ambulance to the hospital.

Friday, 4:38 p.m., Ind. 116. David Crowder, 26, Fort Wayne, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata southeast on Ind. 116 when he hit a deer, causing it to sail into the oncoming lane where it slammed into a northwest-bound 2017 Chevrolet Trax in the hood  The Trax was driven by Viola Osborn, 55, Uniondale. Damage to the two vehicles exceeded $10,000

Friday, 6:03 p.m., 500N near 700E. Michael M. Mahan, 69, rural Decatur, hit a deer with his 2018 Volkswagen Beetle. Damage to the car exceeded $2,500.

Sunday, 9:08 a.m., Ind. 218 west of 100W. Justin L. Younker, 29, Lebanon, Ohio, was eastbound on Ind. 218 when his 2006 Toyota Scion dropped of the right side of the road, continued traveling across the property of Stacey Wilson, 1546W-Ind. 218, crashed through three separate fence lines on the property, veered back onto the road and Younker continued eastbound without stopping. However, a witness to the crash followed Younker’s Scion into Adams County where an Adams County Sheriff’s deputy was able to pull the vehicle over. The Wells County Deputy Sheriff who investigated the accident then drove to the Adams County deputy’s traffic stop and spoke with Younker. Younker allegedly told the deputy that nothing had occurred while he was driving home from a friend’s house in Warren. The deputy asked about the obvious fresh damage to the vehicle but Younker allegedly told the deputy that the damage was from a prior crash in Ohio. Younker reportedly continued to deny being involved in a crash in Ohio even after the deputy told Younker he had witnesses to the crash involving the Scion. Younker was placed under arrest for leaving the scene of a property damage crash, a Class B misdemeanor. He was released from custody on his own recognizance. Damage exceeded $5,000.

Sunday, 4:40 p.m., Ind. 1 near 750S. Charlie Davis, 64, Fort Wayne, hit a deer with his 2014 Lincoln MKT. Damage to the car exceeded $2,500.

FIRES

Sunday, 7:05 a.m., Wabash Village apartments, 401 E. State St. Fire alarm. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. Alarm triggered by burning food in one of the apartments.

Sunday, 5:52 p.m., 710 South Bennett Street. Smoking outlet, no flames. 

ARRESTS

Derek Evan Delporte, 50, Hartford City; failure to appear in court, a Class A misdemeanor. No bond set.

Kathleen Lynn Crawley, 31, Albany; failure to appear in court, a Class A misdemeanor,. No bond set.

Roger Lee Fox II, 19, Bluffton; three counts of violating probation. No bond set.
