Melvin J. Frauhiger, 94, of Bluffton, went to be with his Lord on Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 2022, at Christian Care Retirement Community.

Melvin was born on July 31, 1928, in Adams County, to Levi and Mary (Heyerly) Frauhiger. He married Lucile J. “Tootie” Reinhard in Bluffton on Jan. 20, 1954. She preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 2019, after 65 years of marriage.

Melvin served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, and for eight years he ran a canned milk route in Berne for United Milk Company. Later he owned and operated Frauhiger Insulation for 20 years and then Frauhiger RV Park for nine years. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and for 60 years, he enjoyed buying, selling, and collecting antiques. 

Survivors include two daughters, Renee Biberstine of Decatur; Tonya (Gary) Lewis of Ossian; six grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremy) Wolf, Joe (Ashley) Lewis, Jarrod (Alicia) Lewis, James (Lindsay) Lewis, Josh (Alicia) Lewis, and Tyler (Olivia) Frauhiger; along with 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Kent Frauhiger; five brothers, Earl, Ivan, Harry, Homer, and Freeman Frauhiger; and three sisters, Irene Steffen, Doris Fiechter, and Bernice Fiechter.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, followed immediately by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Doyle Frauhiger and Ron Kipfer will officiate. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County.
