The Bluffton Common Council approved the move from four to five council districts Tuesday night, putting the maps in play for the 2023 city elections.
The city has gone over 10,000 in population as of the 2020 census, meaning the city must have seven members on its Common Council going forward. The council decided to add one at-large member and create one new district to get to seven members.
None of the council members reported any objections from the public. Josh Hunt said he had been asked where the districts are. “I had zero calls,” Mayor John Whicker said.
The five council members approved the new districts on second reading Tuesday night which puts them in play for the 2023 election.
