Vision 2035, the revision of the Wells County comprehensive plan, will be given one final review in the form of a formal public hearing Thursday evening at the Commerce and Visitors Centre.

In his director’s opinion notes sent out to members of the Area Plan Commission, Michael Lautzenheiser Jr., the APC’s executive director, noted that the plan was altered following remarks given during the commission’s July meeting. The pan’s format and grammar were also reviewed.

“With these being complete, I believe we have the version of the plan that is ready for adoption,” Lautzenheiser said.

The APC’s progress on the revision was delayed by a number of items, not the least of which was the COVID-19 pandemic. Citizens have expressed concerns in recent months about the possibility of four-laning Ind. 1 or bypassing Ossian, and eliminating industrial solar farms from the plan.

The formal hearing Thursday evening will be the first step in the plan’s adoption. After its approval by the APC, it will be presented to the incorporated entities — Wells County, Bluffton, Ossian, Uniondale, Zanesville, Vera Cruz, and Poneto — for their approval.

Thursday night’s meeting starts at 7 p.m.

One item is up for review Thursday evening in addition to the comprehensive plan — a development plan review for a self-storage operation at 1800 S. Main St. in Bluffton. That will be discussed before the comprehensive plan.
