The Bluffton Board of Works approved the hire of a new intern at the Bluffton-Wells County Animal Shelter.

During its Tuesday evening meeting, Chief of Police Kyle Randall approached the board with documentation requesting to hire Archer Jones as a summer intern. Jones is a recent Southern Wells High School graduate and plans to attend Ball State in the Fall to study biology and zoology.

Jones will be working with the Bluffton-Wells County Animal Shelter beginning mid-June. The board approved the hire with an hourly rate of $14.

The board then discussed a request from Laurie White to create an additional handicap parking spot on East Horton Street in front of her mother’s home. The board approved the parking spot but specified that it will still be available to anyone with access to handicap parking.

Additionally, Wells County Commissioners requested a partnership with Bluffton for utilities in the construction of the new highway garage. The structure needs larger water and sanitary lines for the garage, and the board agreed to work with them on.

In member Roger Thornton’s absence, board members deferred discussing a water bill reduction request from Flat Creek LLC until their next meeting.
