Holly Gaskill

Holly Gaskill of Berne has joined The News-Banner as a full-time reporter.

Gaskill graduated magna cum laude last month from Taylor University with her bachelor of science in multimedia journalism and a concentration in news media. She is also a 2018 graduate of South Adams High School.

At Taylor, Gaskill was heavily involved with her university newspaper, The Echo, for four years and served as co-editor in chief for two years. Earlier this spring, the Pulliam Foundation honored Gaskill with the I.B. Pulliam Journalism Excellence Award. Gaskill has received seven article awards from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association and one award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Additionally, during both years of her leadership, The Echo placed 2nd in the Indiana Collegiate Press as a Division III newspaper.

Previously, Gaskill has served as a reporter at The Berne Witness and completed internships at the Chronicle-Tribune in Marion, Ind. and Sweetwater in Fort Wayne.

Outside of her involvements in journalism, Gaskill was an active member of the Cultural Diversity Scholars, hosted a campus radio show, worked at Zondervan Library, served as a residence life personnel assistant and acted as part of Taylor’s comedy improv group, Rice Pilaf.

For The News-Banner, Gaskill will start covering Wells County government later this month and will write features and other news items as needed.

“We are thrilled to have Holly join our staff. She brings with her an impressive resume and a tenacity that will serve her well in her new beat,” Editor Jessica Bricker said. “She is no stranger to Northeast Indiana and that familiarity gives her an advantage as she gets to know Wells County on a deeper level by telling the stories of the people here.”

In her free time, Gaskill enjoys playing and listening to music, watching scary movies and catching up with friends over a cup of iced chai.

“It’s a pleasure to be reporting alongside the talented News-Banner staff in such a beautiful community,” Gaskill said. “I look forward to knowing Wells County better and hopefully reporting to help everyone know Wells County a bit better.”
