Rory A. McBride, 6, of Monroeville, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at his residence.

Rory was born at home in Monroeville on May 7, 2016, to Jason Evan and Erin Elizabeth Lyons McBride.

Rory was a member, along with the rest of his family, of the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, where he found great joy in attending Sunday school.

His mother, Erin, is a stay-at- home mother who takes great joy in raising her family. His father, Jason, is employed at Parkview Behavioral Health Institute-Park Center as a group home lead.

Rory ran headlong into life, giving the best hugs and winning people with his big smile. To keep up with his older siblings, he skipped crawling and began walking at 9 months of age. He was always an active boy and lived for swimming and getting dirty outside with no shirt or shoes on. He loved to eat pizza and popcorn on Friday movie nights with his family, and when he wasn’t trying to convince others to play video games with him, he was sneaking off to hide with a console or someone’s phone. Rory’s first abiding passion was dinosaurs. Not only could he rattle off their long names, his impersonation of the T-Rex, his favorite dinosaur, was legendary within the family, and confirmed to all that he was fittingly named.

Rory is survived by his parents, Jason and Erin McBride of Monroeville,; two brothers, Kilian E. and Connor J. McBride, and two sisters, Noelle M. and Juliette L.R. McBride, all at home; his maternal grandfather, Dennis (Deia) Lyons of Fort Wayne; his maternal grandmother, Celia Lyons of Geneva, Ill.; his paternal step-grandmother, Tina McBride of Tocsin; and paternal great-grandmother, Donna M. Myers of Ossian.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bruce E. McBride and Pamela A. (Myers) Schieber; his maternal great-grandmother, Shirley Lyons; his maternal great-grandfather, Richard Lyons; his maternal great-grandmother, Jeannine Crixell; his paternal great-grandparents, Wilford and Freda McBride; and his paternal great-grandfather, Eugene K. Myers.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock.

Visitation will be held at the church from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to benefit the McBride family can be made payable to Jason McBride and directed to the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, 520 N. Second St., Decatur, IN 46733, with 100 percent of the donations being given to the McBride family.
