Friday, 11 p.m., Ind. 116 east of 400E. Report of an older male driver who missed his turn. He tried doing a three-point turnaround on Ind. 116 and in the process got his vehicle stuck in the muddy ditch. The vehicle was creating a hazard for traffic on Ind. 116, so a sheriff’s deputy responded. While the deputy was speaking the man, noticed that the man was unsteady — likely due to age not intoxication — and the man lost his footing and tumbled down a steep ditch bank and into the water in the ditch. The deputy helped the man out of the water. He reportedly told the deputy he was fine, the car was pulled out of the ditch with no damage and the man did not want an accident report.

Saturday, 3:34 a.m., Crossroads Pantry, 115 W. Logan St., Markle. Caller reported a man driving a white Pontiac G6 with Texas license plates got out of his vehicle, saw the convenience store was closed, threw a flashlight at the door shattering the glass, got back into the car and drove away east on U.S. 224. A sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle matching the description on 300W south of Zanesville and conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The driver, who allegedly matched the description of the person given by the witness, was ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint. The driver told the deputy he was driving from his home state of Texas to Michigan and reportedly admitted to having passed through Markle around 6 or 7 p.m. the previous night after having bought gas at the Sunoco station across the road from Crossroads Pantry. The deputy observed in his report that much of what the driver was saying did not seem to make a lot of sense but he did not appear to be under the influence of anything.  information was taken down, a flashlight that was in plain sight in the vehicle was confiscated and he was let go pending further investigation.
