Effective the first week of June, the Wells County Commissioners will have a new meeting time.

On Monday, the commissioners — Jeff Stringer, Mike Vanover, and Blake Gerber — voted unanimously to change their meeting time to 5 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month. The county’s drainage board, led by Surveyor Jarrod Hahn, will meet at 4:30 p.m., prior to the commissioners.

The third Monday of the month is traditionally the meeting day for the county’s solid waste management board. That group will meet at 4 p.m.

“If we don’t like it, then we can talk about changing it back at some point,” Stringer said.

Stringer led the discussion of changing the meeting time — which has been in the morning for years — to accommodate members of the public who have apparently expressed an interest to attend but have been unable to. Stringer said he has heard from constituents that the commissioners aren’t accessible.

The decision to change the meeting time effective Monday, June 6, was approved by all three commissioners.
