Trial dates have been rescheduled for the Markle man charged with the murder of his 72-year-old grandmother late last year.
Anthony Castleman, 37, is facing charges of murder, a Level 1 felony. Castleman was scheduled to stand trial on Aug. 26, however, the trial has been rescheduled following a motion from Castleman’s defense.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the charges were filed in November 2023 after police located the body of Bernice “Dianna” Eubank, Castleman’s grandmother, with multiple stab wounds. Castleman was identified as a suspect after a family member told authorities that Castleman had visited him the day before using Eubank’s vehicle and cell phone. He also reportedly asked the family member to help “clean up a mess” and alluded to going to prison for a long time.
Castleman was found over a month later by Rochelle Police Chief Banks in Georgia. Castleman was then extradited and booked into the Huntington County Jail in early February 2024.
Castleman initially requested a fast and speedy trial, however, he changed his mind after his initial hearing. His trial is expected to take five days and is currently scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 28 in the Huntington Circuit Court.
