Bi-County sees positive financial growth
Bi-County Services gave annual reports to both the Wells County Commissioners and Council during their meetings this week. Bi-County receives $45,408 annually from the county to support their services for people with disabilities.
President Tim Ramsey said Bi-County has been on the rebound after a “hard year” with staffing and finances last year. Even so, he advised that Bi-County is still operating at a deficit.
Sheriff reports on jail population
Sheriff Scott Holliday was not present at Tuesday’s County Council meeting but sent population numbers in advance via email. As of Tuesday morning, the jail housed 79 inmates — 41 pretrial holds for the Circuit Court, 27 pretrial holds for the Superior Court, 12 from the Department of Correction and one Level 6 felon.
Council approves additional appropriations
During their monthly meeting Tuesday evening, the Wells County Council approved a series of additional appropriations and transfers. Additionals were:
• $274,054.88 to the Highway Department for Bridge 51 on County Road 300 West over Scuffle Creek.
• $1,740 for the probation secretary in the Probation Department. In his request, Circuit Court Judge Kenton Kiracofe stated this amount covers a shortfall in the budget in the transition of the secretary’s retirement.
Transfers were:
• $1,595 from office supplies to postage in the Treasurer’s Office due to an increase in postage costs.
• $704 from IV-D copier lease to IV-D conference fees in the Prosecutor’s Office. In his request, Prosecutor Colin Andrews said the transfer would cover the cost of a hotel for two Child Support employees to attend a conference.
• $4,000 from vehicle supplies to gas and fuel, and $100 from PPE supplies to wearing apparel for Community Corrections. Director Blake Poindexter said the transfers cover a shortfall in their budget.
