Betty J. Hughes, 89, of Ossian, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice Home.
Betty was born March 11, 1935, in DeRuyter, New York, as the daughter to the late Francis Ransom and Ruth Alice (Burdick) Eaton. She had worked for many businesses throughout her life, but most recently worked as a Walmart Greeter. Betty was a member of the Jefferson Homemaker’s Club, Red Hat Society, and was a hospice volunteer.
Surviving are her children, Paul (Holly) Hughes of Ossian, Sandy Hughes of Decatur, Brenda (Randy) Parteko of Huntington, Alan (Sharon) Hughes of Union Hall, Virginia, and Lorraine (Bob) Miller; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Steve Eaton and Ron Eaton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Harold Hughes, in 2001; sister, Faye Winn; and brother, Gerald Eaton.
A visitation and gathering for Betty will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St. in Ossian, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center, 215 Davis Road, Ossian, Indiana 46777.
