Program Director Bethanie Burns said the change was prompted by a desire for deeper celebration and community inclusivity.

“Graduation is such a celebration for all the hard work women put in,” Burns explained. “We want all who are able to attend to support them in this accomplishment. Especially family and the community that has supported them along their journeys.”

Bethanie Burns (left) stopped in to check on fellow staff and residents at Hannah’s House after a woman unexpectedly chose to leave of the program. Burns encouraged all who were present to continue their paths of recovery and follow the program through to graduation from Grace and Mercy.

Burns said that women enter into a six-month aftercare program following graduation.

“During this time, we meet up and make sure they’re still doing well in their personal recovery,” Burns continued. “Being out on their own again can be a little scary at times. Staying connected through meetings and events keeps an open-door to communication with us if they need help.”

Beginning this month, Burns announced that there will also be a group meeting for those in the aftercare program. The group will gather on the last Wednesday of the month at The Meeting Place.

Burns emphasized gratitude for Steve and Stephanie Roads who have allowed the organization the safe off-site location for women to meet during the program.

Specific information about the graduation will be available soon. Anyone who is interested in more information regarding the event should contact Bethanie Burns at bethanie@ccnei.org.
