I don’t know about you, but I sure love a long weekend! If you have extra time this weekend, bring the kids to a park, enjoy a long walk on a trail, and visit the last few days of the splash pads.
Next week, our office will print over 2,000 copies of the fall coloring contest with many fun activities for the kids listed on the backside. Be sure to check your child’s backpack in the next week or so for the paper and return it to the Park office by Oct. 23 for them to have a chance to win a prize. If you need more copies, you can print them from the City’s website at https://tinyurl.com/mtbacmyj.
Free Toddler Time starts Oct. 4. The Bluffton City Gym will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 11-noon for you to bring your tots to burn off some energy. (Oct.–March) This free drop-in program will allow young children to play with others their age in a large open space. Balls will be available in the storage closet at the east end of the gym when we hear the children arrive. Please note that this is not a staff-facilitated event, and parents are responsible for their children. We will offer a special tour or activity on the first Thursday of each month except for Dec. (The special event will be Dec. 14). Please sign in on the wooden door each visit and turn off the gym lights if you are the last to leave. Call the park office at 824-6069 if you have any questions.
• Oct. 5 will be our Police Station visit.
• Nov. 2 will be our Fire Station visit.
• Dec. 14 will be Story Time with Mrs. Claus.
Free Theater Thursday is Sept. 28. Join us at the Wells County Public Library. We will show the movie “Dog,” rated PG13, at 10 a.m. With a dog named Lulu by his side, army ranger Briggs races down the Pacific coast to make it to a soldier’s funeral on time. Along the way, Briggs and Lulu drive each other completely crazy, break a handful of laws, narrowly evade death, and learn to let down their guard to have a fighting chance of finding happiness. Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department and Wells County Public Library have partnered to offer adults a free monthly movie. This year-round event is on the third Thursday of every month except for Sept., when we move it back because of Street Fair. Questions call 824-6069.
There is still time to sign up for the Nerf Wars event at the Bluffton City Gym on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Boys and girls ages 5-16 can play for only $1. You must pre-register for this event by emailing events@blufftonindiana.gov or calling 824-6069. Bring your own Nerf weapons; we’ve got the ammo covered.
If you are a fan of good music, stop by and see our friends at the Ossian Parks Department on Saturday, September 9th, from 7-9 p.m. for their next concert at Archbold Wilson Park. Grateful Dead fans will love the sound of the Grateful Groove. Food and beverages will be on sale during this free concert.
There is a Free Community Awareness Night featuring Cody & John, who will speak on Fentanyl awareness, the opioid crisis, and addiction and recovery on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the 4-H park. Our community recently developed a Drug Taskforce and encourages everyone to stop by for some enlightening information as well as a chance to win free prizes for attending. No registration is required, and doors will open at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. presentation. Questions can be directed to eprible@wellscoc.com or by calling 824-0510 ext 2.
