After a courageous 7 month battle with primary peritoneal cancer, Melanie L. Schweikhardt, 64, of Bluffton, walked peacefully into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday morning, March 30, 2023, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Melanie was born in Hartford City on June 7, 1958, to Lovell Lee and Juanita Mae (Payne) Kellogg. She happily married the love of her life, Matt, in Warren, Sept. 4, 1976.
A 1976 graduate of Southern Wells High School, Melanie attended Sonlight Wesleyan Church in Bluffton. Melanie was passionate in her artistic hobbies which included sewing, jewelry making, and decorating. She especially enjoyed watercolor painting and taking photographs of birds and landscapes. She loved flowers and traveling. Melanie had a talent for creating beautiful dinners and making holidays special for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her loving sisters in Christ, the Brunch Bunch, who encouraged her always.
In addition to her husband, Melanie is survived by two daughters, Leslie (Brian) Shank and Leah (Adam) Barry, both of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Shaylynn, Keenan, Lynae, Ava, Henry, and June; two sisters, Lee Ann (Scott) Garrett of Warren and Cindy (Gary) Story of Portland, Tenn.; along with a brother, Randy (Laurie) Lockdall of Unionville.
Melanie was preceded in death by her parents.
A special time to share memories with family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from noon until 3 p.m., at Sonlight Wesleyan Church, in Bluffton, followed by a service at 3 p.m. Pastor Lyle Breeding will officiate. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
