Layne Fisher

Layne Fisher of Bluffton Regional Medical Center will discuss dementia during Thursday morning’s meeting of the Ossian Rotary Club.

Fisher grew up in the Ossian area and graduated from Norwell High School in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree in linguistics at Northeast Missouri State University and her graduate degree in communication disorders at the University of Wyoming.

She has worked in a variety of settings, including First Steps, where she worked with children from the ages of birth to three, addressing a wide range of childhood language, speech and swallowing disorders. She also has worked in skilled nursing facilities, providing rehabilitative services for adult and geriatric patients for cognition, swallowing, and language comprehension/expression.

Fisher currently works at BRMC, providing both inpatient and outpatient services. Her caseload encompasses all aspects of cognition, language, articulation, functional/social language use, and swallowing for all ages and medical conditions/diagnoses.

Throughout her career, Fisher has expanded her skill set to include training for swallowing disorders to better meet the needs of more advanced/difficult patient issues.

The Ossian Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ossian, 1001 Dehner Drive.

Next week’s Ossian Rotary speaker will be Ked Moser of Big Jaws Youth for Christ.
