The driver of a pickup truck which struck two parked cars early Thursday morning allegedly fled the scene and was still at large later in the day.
The driver, who fled the scene after the 12:10 a.m. crash at the intersection of Market and Bennett streets, was chased for a short time by a witness. The driver, who allegedly may have been intoxicated, eluded the witness around the Pickett’s Run Park.
Police Chief Kyle Randall said the driver was not found during a K-9 search and had not been apprehended as of Thursday afternoon.
According to a police report, the driver of a black Ford F-250 pickup truck was eastbound on Market Street and the truck struck two parked cars — a black Ford Fusion and a silver Chevrolet Impala.
Both cars had to be towed from the scene with what was termed moderate body damage on the left side. The impact pushed the Fusion onto a sidewalk and the Impala across Bennett Street.
The pickup truck’s owner was listed on the crash report as Brittannie D. Ripley of Vera Cruz. The pickup truck was reported to have moderate body damage and significant undercarriage damage.
The report said that the driver of the pickup was a male who was “unable to be apprehended after searching the area.” A sheriff’s deputy followed up at the residence of the registered owner, and she reportedly said that her boyfriend had borrowed the truck.
The owner of the Impala is listed as Trisha N. Diskey of East Market Street. The report did not list an owner for the Fusion.
