With only one race involving one party, the Wells County Election Board is following its past practices and holding only two weeks of early voting prior to the municipal primary election on May 2.
The board members — County Clerk Beth Davis, Roy Johnson, and Larry Sell — approved a resolution this week to start early voting on Monday, April 17, in the clerk’s office in the Wells County Courthouse. Hours that day will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Additional days for in-person absentee voting are:
• Tuesday, April 18, through Friday, April 23, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, at the courthouse.
• Saturday, April 22, 8 a.m. to noon at both the courthouse and at First Presbyterian Church, 215 E. Dustman Road.
• Monday, April 24, through Thursday, April 27, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at the courthouse.
• Friday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church and at the Wells County Community Center, 1240 4-H Park Road.
• Saturday, April 29, 8 a.m. to noon, at the courthouse and at First Presbyterian Church.
• Monday, May 1, 8 a.m. to noon, at the courthouse.
The official primary election day will be Tuesday, May 2. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church and the Wells County Community Center. No other vote centers will be used for the municipal primary.
The only race on the ballot is for the Republican nomination for the two at-large seats on the Bluffton Common Council at stake this year. Rick Elwell is the incumbent at-large member; also on the ballot are Blake Fiechter, Ronald Neuenschwander, and Ethan Sommerfeld.
The board met Tuesday and formally approved the ballot for the Bluffton primary. No Democrats filed for a spot on the city ballot.
