During their last meeting of 2022, members of the Markle Town Council took a look ahead to 2023.

Matthew Doss was re-elected president and Nick Lund will again serve as vice president next year, the three-member council — which includes Blake Caley — decided Wednesday night. Doss and Lund filled those roles for 2022.

The council members also appointed James Madsen to serve on the Markle Board of Zoning Appeals in 2023.

The council approved a request from Town Marshal John Markley, who was not present, to resubmit a bid for a new police vehicle at a higher price. The repeated act was necessary when the first bid was not submitted by a third party in time to meet an earlier deadline.

In order to get a new police vehicle during 2023, the town would have to pay $43.260 — which is $8,000 over the previous price for the Ford Interceptor. All three council members voted in favor of the motion.

In other business Wednesday:

• Caley reported that he has been named to the Huntington County Community Foundation’s Grant Committee. He will no participate in any discussion or vote concerning a grant that will benefit Markle.

• Clerk-Treasurer Stephenie Hensley reported that the town’s assistant superintendent, Mike Grant, has been in conversation with the BakerTilly municipal finance company concerning a review of utility rates.

• The town responded to funding requests from the Youth Services Bureau of Huntington County, $100, and from the Huntington County Council on Aging, $150.
