A remodeling project on Johnson Street has been chosen as the final recipient of funds through the Bluffton Community Re-Investment Program.
The buildings at 112 and 114 S. Johnson St., owned by Market Street Development, has been approved for glass replacement. There is $6,455.46 remaining in the CRP’s 2022 funds for the work, and Mike Lautzenheiser — representing the downtown revitalization organization, Bluffton NOW!, which administers the program — recommended to the Bluffton Board of Public Works and Safety that the money be invested in the Johnson Street structures.
The money will be a matching grant for improvements, Lautzenheiser said. The total cost of improvements from one contractor is an estimated $40,631.70, but Lautzenheiser said the price could be reduced.
Lautzenheiser said the CRP has $600 left from one of the previous applicants, which boosted the final total available.
The three members of the Board of Works — Mayor John Whicker, Scott Mentzer, and Josh Hunt — approved Lautzenheiser’s recommendation.
