The Wells County Public Library’s Bluffton site has undergone an outdoor improvement project, which will allow the area to become more user friendly.

Picnic tables and benches, made of weather-resistant materials, are located outside the Wells County Public Library in Bluffton and are ready to be sponsored.

As the landscaping has been replaced, a variety of outdoor seating opportunities have been added. Included in the plan are five-foot garden benches and eight-person walk-in picnic tables, all constructed of durable, weather-resistant materials. This will allow for seating for those wishing to make use of the library’s internet.

The public is being given the opportunity to sponsor the benches and picnic tables, as the library’s budget, which is tax supported, does not allow for some projects.

Benches also have been placed in front of the library on West Washington Street, allowing for seating and the use of the library’s internet. (Photos by Barbara Barbieri)

And that is where the library’s “friends” can shine. The cost to sponsor a bench is $1,000 or to sponsor a picnic table is $2,000. A plaque will be placed outside the main library on West Washington Street in Bluffton marking the different donation levels. And for those willing to sponsor a bench or table a plaque will be placed directly on the item.

A donation of $250 secures a Bronze level, $500 a silver level and $750 a gold level of giving. A donation form is available at the library for giving a monetary gift. Questions about how to donate should be directed to Dawn Miller of the library staff at 824-1612.

Memorials and Gifts

The Wells County Public Library is supported by tax dollars. The library budget, however, cannot provide many materials that would improve its usefulness in the community. (Donations are tax deductible.)

Through the years, valuable additions to the library have been made possible because of donations from local citizens and the Friends of the Library group.

One of the ways is by a monetary gift to purchase equipment or library materials that benefit library patrons. Prior gifts of this type have included books, a map rack in the Indiana Room, a digital piano, art and an automatic entrance door.

Donations may be given to a specific project or to the unrestricted fund as a memorial.
