D. Keith Meade, 83, of Bluffton, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 21, 2022, at his residence.

Keith was born in Wells County on Nov. 23, 1938, to Arnet and Laura (Robinson) Meade. He married Marilyn Brown in Bryant on Mar. 9, 1957. Marilyn preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2022, after 65 years of marriage.  

Keith attended Petroleum High School and Bluffton Wesleyan Chapel. He worked at General Motors in Marion from 1960 until retiring in 1991. He also served as a Wells County Deputy Sheriff from 1967 until 1968.  

After retirement, Keith served in various part-time roles, most notably in the maintenance department at the Wells County Hospital and as a custodian at the Wells County Courthouse. He was an avid runner and later in life he still enjoyed walking. He was a caretaker for his ill wife for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching old westerns, and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandsons, and great-grandsons.    

Keith is survived by two daughters, Sheryl Meade and Cynthia Harnish, both of Bluffton; three grandsons, Brian Wafford, Kevin Wafford and Brandon (Heather) Harnish; and two great-grandsons, Trey Collins and Kayden Wafford.

In addition to his wife and parents, Keith was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Meade, and three sisters, Lois Prough, Mary Hiatt and Wanda Wall.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, followed immediately by a funeral service at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. The Rev. Marc Dodrill will officiate. Burial will follow at Horeb Cemetery in Uniondale.  

In lieu of floral tributes and gifts, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bluffton Wesleyan Chapel or American Alzheimer’s Association.
