Mayor John Whicker wants to know how many Bluffton residents come in to pay their utility bills between 4:30 and 5 p.m. each day.

The reason for the survey is to determine if daily hours at City Hall can be reduced from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with employees taking a half-hour lunch instead of an hour.

The move is employee-friendly, Whicker said. “This would give employees a little more time to attend sporting events” and other late-afternoon events, the mayor said.

Whicker wants the issue brought up for more discussion at the council’s next meeting, which will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4. The council will not meet on Sept. 20, the opening night of the Bluffton Free Street Fair.
