The Wells County Area Plan Commission had a non-meeting Thursday evening.
The APC’s president, Jerome Markley, went through the formality of calling the roll for the meeting at 7:10 p.m. — 10 minutes after the meeting’s start time. Five members acknowledged their presence but six didn’t.
On the 11-member APC, six are needed for a quorum. Therefore, without a quorum, the APC could not legally meet.
Markley apologized to those who had attended the meeting. On the agenda were a final discussion of the revision of the county’s comprehensive plan, Vision 2035, and a review of the development plan for new storage units on Bluffton’s Main Street.
Markley said the six members who weren’t there were sick or out of state or at the state fair.
“We have no alternative but to move everything back to the September meeting,” Markley said. “There’s really nothing we can do about it.”
Markley, Harry Baumgartner Jr., Tyson Brooks, Josh Hunt, and Tim Rohr were present. Cory Elzey, Jarrod Hahn, Bill Horan, John Schuhmacher, Becky Stone-Smith, and Melissa Woodworth were not present.
An estimated 25 people were on hand to view the meeting and possibly speak at the public hearing concerning the APC’s adoption of the comprehensive plan.
The APC meets on the first Thursday of each month. The September meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 1.
