Bluffton’s Stylus Technologies will have a chance to upgrade the system that the company installed in the county government annex building more than a decade ago.

On Monday, during the county commissioners’ first meeting at 5 p.m., Owner Rick Elwell answered questions about his bid for $5,060.74. Another bid came in from ITI of Bluffton for $6,171.

The biggest differences appeared to be in that Stylus will incorporate the current wired microphones while ITI quoted for replacement wireless microphones, and that Elwell said his project included a processor to help automate how the sound is regulated in the room and on the livestream. ITI’s project apparently included a quote for a mixer, not a processor.

Elwell said the upgrades — which would be similar to the one in the city hall chambers of the Bluffton Common Council, on which Elwell serves —would be made to the system Stylus installed in 2011.

The project includes a processor and cleaning up the on-floor cabling. Elwell said switching to wireless microphones didn’t make sense in the room for the usage it will have.

“I understand the concern and the need,” Elwell said of the project.

Commissioners Mike Vanover, Jeff Stringer and Blake Gerber approved the project 3-0.
