Destination Recreation
Our Senior Snippet classes are winding down, just in time for our Halloween and youth events to start ramping up.
Starting Monday, we will accept photos for the FREE Virtual Costume Contest. Send a current picture of your child in this year’s costume to events@blufftonindiana.gov, along with your name, child’s name, age, and phone number by Oct. 31. We will post them on Facebook, and whichever picture has the most votes will receive a prize. Voting will take place from Nov. 1 until Nov. 6. This contest is open to any Wells County resident, and you must be willing to pick up your prize at City Hall.
FREE Boo in Bluffton is on Halloween night, Oct. 31, from 5–6 p.m., rain or shine. Downtown sidewalks come to life with thousands of costumed children and their families visiting local businesses. Don’t forget to stop by the City Gym for treats from 15 area participants. Businesses on the outskirts of town will hand out treats from 6-7 p.m. If you are a local business and would like to participate at your facility for Boo in Bluffton, you can sign-up at brenda.jackson@blufftonindiana.gov or call 824-1520. Door-to-door trick or treat for the City of Bluffton will be from 5-7:30 p.m.
FREE Open Gym starts next month! Supervised activities for school-aged kids begin from Nov. 2 to March 13 at the Bluffton City Gym. All participants must fill out a parental permission slip either the first day they attend or print one off and send it in with them from the city’s website: https://tinyurl.com/474zkksm. This program is four days a week from 3:30-6 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Calendars will be available in the gym, or check the city’s website calendar.
FREE Weekday Walking has started and will run until the end of March from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Walking is one of the best exercises for all age groups and has many health benefits. If you can spare fifteen minutes daily for walking, it will help you maintain a healthy weight. Participants can enter through the glass door on the West side of the building and sign in on the gym door each day they attend. If you are the last to leave the gym, please turn off the light in the southwest corner. One Mile = 20 laps
Hooked On Crochet starts in a few weeks. Learning to crochet will give you a lifetime of pleasure and relaxation. You can learn to create handmade items for yourself and those you love. Classes will be taught by Kathy Gehrett at Washington Park Indoor Pavilion (710 S. Mulberry St.) from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21. Three one-hour group lessons cost $20 due the first day. Yarn and instructions will be provided, and you must bring a size H hook. Call the park office to pre-register at 824-6069 or email events@blufftonindiana.gov. Class size is limited and open to beginners and advanced students.
The WOOF Trail Run is back on Nov. 2 and is better than ever. Choose from 5, 10, or 15 miles of stunning scenery at Ouabache State Park at 9 a.m. After you cross the finish line, enjoy delicious burgers and snacks while you celebrate your achievement with cool long-sleeve event T-shirts and finisher medals for every participant. Don’t miss out on this fall trail run — sign up today and make your mark on the trails. Register here: https://raceroster.com/events/2024/93217/woof-trail-run.
We want to thank 3Rivers Credit Union for volunteering their time in the cold to clean up and mulch the iris garden on the River Greenway. We also want to thank the Lion’s Club for their recent donation to improve Lion’s Park. Bluffton is so blessed with caring businesses and clubs that give back to our community, and we genuinely appreciate that!
Have a great week!
