Bluffton schools will proceed with a series of construction projects by issuing a bond of over $10 million.
Because of expiring debt, this will not significantly impact the district’s debt service tax rate — increasing from roughly 0.46 percent to 0.48 percent. No one was present for public comment.
These funds will be used toward several needed construction projects at Bluffton High School — the aging roof, improvements to the walls and windows, and water system replacements.
Ultimately, these projects aim to target ongoing moisture issues within the building. Pockets of moisture have been identified in the building’s roof — which has outlived its projected life by several years — and around windows. This moisture has led to frequent repairs with roof leaks, peeling paint and other issues. The administration identified these projects to resolve the core problems and sought advice to determine the most cost-effective route.
The anticipated total of this work is just over $10.1 million. Superintendent Brad Yates noted the scope change as final bids are received.
