Tuesday, 9:32 p.m., Custom Molded Plastics. Man hitchhiking to the airport. Officer assisted with transport. 

Wednesday, 12:01 a.m., residence on West Wabash Street. Possible identity theft. 

Wednesday, 10:22 a.m., Bluffton Police Department. Subject turned himself in.

Tuesday, 3:11 p.m. Served warrant at Wells County Jail.

Tuesday, 3:15 p.m., East Logan Street and North Clark Street, Markle. Semi hauling gravel dropping contents on road. 

Tuesday, 3:57 p.m., 3678N 100E, rural Bluffton. Amazon vehicle stuck in yard. Pemberton’s Towing pulled the vehicle out. 

Tuesday, 4:49 p.m., Kroger, Bluffton. Man unable to reach his wife and worries she may have had an issue with her diabetes. The woman’s vehicle was located at Kroger and the woman was inside and fine.

Wednesday, 5:19 a.m., 3690 East Market Street, Petroleum. Semi stuck in a ditch facing northbound with the back end of the trail into the grass just south of the intersection. Driver reported missing his turn and trying to back up to turn onto 900S when the trailer dipped off the road into the grass. 

Ossian:

Tuesday, 6:59 p.m., residence on North Meridian Road, Ossian. Neighbors shooting toward caller’s property. 

Tuesday, 8:05 p.m., Tipsy Ditch. Dispatch informed that a man was trespassing at this location. Business owner asked that the man not be arrested due to mental health issues and instead consider Parkview Regional Medical Center. The man was not arrested, but denied medical assistance. 

Tuesday, 11:52 p.m., Silo Farms. Report of a confused elderly man driving around. The man’s vehicle was located, and told the deputy he had lost his phone and was looking for the house of the person who had cleaned his home a week ago. Deputy assisted the man home and made contact with his emergency contact, who advised the man had not been diagnosed with dementia and did not have any family close by. Deputy contacted Adult Protective Services to inquire about possible assistance but the call disconnected without follow-up. 

Wednesday, 2:38 a.m., 8665 North Ind. 1. Vehicle left the roadway, striking a News-Banner box and hitting an embankment at the driveway of 8713N Ind. 1. Deputy identified the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and a handgun located on the floor of the driver’s side. Shelby Leepo Humphrey, 24, Fort Wayne, exited the vehicle and said he had fallen asleep on his way home from work. Humphrey blew zero on a portable breathe test, but failed one field sobriety test. He also admitted to having marijuana cigarillos in his breast pocket. Humphrey then consented to a blood draw at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Raw marijuana and marijuana cigarettes were both located in the vehicle, which was towed from the scene by Freeman’s. Humphrey was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor, operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, a Class C misdemeanor. Bond set at $4,500. 

Wednesday, 7:08 a.m., 502 South Jefferson Street. Citation issued for disregarding a lighted signal.

ACCIDENTS

City:

Wednesday, 6:13 a.m., Adams Street at Western Avenue. Jamjai Gallogly, 54, Decatur, was driving northbound on Adams Street in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt and, while attempting to turn left, struck the driver’s side of a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Sabrina Beaty, 39, Winchester. Beaty’s vehicle was towed. Damage exceeded $5,000. 

FIRES

Wednesday, 10:17 a.m., Wabash Village. Fire alarm. Building evacuated. Bluffton Fire Department responded. Faulty smoke head located and system restored. 

Wednesday, 11:24 a.m., 1303 West Cherry Street. Gas line hit. NIPSCO on scene at 11:44 a.m. Scene secured at 11:56 a.m.

ARRESTS

Thomas Joseph Schmidt, 53, Fort Wayne; theft, a Level 5 felony. Bond set at $10,000. Bonded.

Andrew Curtis Dickerman, 37, Fort Wayne; theft of auto parts, a Level 6 felony, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a Level 6 felony, and criminal conversion, a Class A misdemeanor. Bond not set. 

Coty Jacob Flores, 31, Bluffton; operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license, a Class A misdemeanor. Bond set at $1,500. 

Matthew Blaine Merrick, 36, Bluffton; leaving the scene of a crash, a Class B misdemeanor. Bond set at $1,000.
