As I write this column it is the last Tuesday of December in the year of 2022. When you read this it will be 2023! My hopes and prayers go to you and your families as we start the new year. Just remember that it can’t be as bad as the last few years.

I cannot believe that we had to suffer family get-togethers, church services and under zero weather for the holiday season.

Lots of work went into the light shows at Ouabache State Park and right here in Zanesville the Living Lights went on as planned. This show only added to the many houses that were decorated for our lighting contest. Thanks to all the families and volunteers that make these great things happen for the community. I will have reports on the contest later.

Our family luckily had their get together the weekend before Christmas with no travel problems. The travel problems even from Zanesville to Uniondale and over to our son’s home were limited so thanks to grandkids playing pick-up, Robin and I did not miss any planned visits to family on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I hope you all stayed safe to.

I hope the weather stays great so that I can attend the Friends Who Care concert and auction at the Wells County Community Center at the 4-H Park in Bluffton on Saturday, Jan. 7. This event is celebrating 10 years this year and proceeds go to Friends Who Care Relief Foundation. Doors open at 4 p.m. There is no admission fee and all are welcome to attend.

Life still is going on in Zanesville. The houses remain festive and some are still having their gatherings they missed because of the weather.

The Zanesville Community Church of God is still hosting the Coffee Cafe for all to attend on weekday mornings from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

The Zanesville Lions Club still has holiday wreaths to sell for $6 each. You can add some flowers to them for Memorial Day, Fourth of July or just place them on your loved ones graves, on your yard or door until those days come up.

The Lions have just a few apple dumplings left but if you want to place an order and give us enough time we will be glad to have them ready for you. As prices have went up we will have to charge $1 more for each cooked dumpling with caramel sauce. For $3 each they will be packed in a to-go carton for freezing.

In a recent meeting of the Allen County Commissioners, our fire district became official. Here in Zanesville all Allen and Wells County properties are part of Southwest Fire Protection District. Our district has been expanded and includes Lafayette, Marion, Pleasant, and Wayne Townships and Zanesville.
