Joyce M. Arnold,  92, of rural Decatur, Ind., passed away on Dec. 27, 2022, at Adams Memorial Hospital.

Joyce was born Oct. 3, 1930 in Adams County, Indiana, as the daughter of the late Franklin H. Fruechte and Ida A (Scherry) Fruechte. Joyce was united in marriage to Darrel D. Arnold on Nov. 17, 1951 at Salem United Church of Christ, Magley, and he survives. 

She graduated from Kirkland High School in 1948. After high school, she worked at the Coca-Cola Plant and Wire and Die in Fort Wayne with her best friend, Helen Conrad. She also worked at G.E. in Decatur. Joyce then went with her husband to Oklahoma and Texas where he was stationed in the army for about two years. Joyce was co-owner of Peterson Grain, Inc., alongside her husband. 

Joyce was a member of Salem Magley Church, the Ladies Aid, women’s guild of the church and many other various offices of the church. Joyce was also member of the Kirkland Ladies Club and Decatur Women of the Moose. She was also a council member of Adams County Clubs. Joyce was a part of the swimming group called “Bubble Babes” and enjoyed having coffee after swimming. 

Joyce played in the bell choir at church, played piano for Sunday school and loved quilting and sewing. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Darrel Arnold of Decatur; son, Dean (Lisa) Arnold of Decatur; grandson, Josh (Chrissy) Arnold of Decatur; grandson, Seth Arnold of Decatur; four great-grandchildren, Kendall, Kaidenn, Addison and Autumn Arnold; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter, Shari Arnold on Dec. 5, 2008 and a brother, Dale Fruechte.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Salem Magley Church with Pastor Christopher Hirschy officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Magley Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2022, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday.
