According to a press release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, Clayton J. Zootman, 18, Bluffton, and his passenger, Janae M. McConnehey, also of Bluffton, were transported via ambulance to a local hospital and are in stable condition following the accident.

Zootman was reportedly driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on Ind. 124 near Adams County Road 400 West when his vehicle veered into an oncoming 2021 Mack Semi driven by Kevin D. Lehman of Geneva.

The SUV sideswiped the semi’s tanker trailer, causing extensive damage to the driver’s side of the car and the driver’s side of the trailer. The semi was not carrying anything at the time of the accident.

Lehman was not injured in the accident. Zootman suffered an apparent leg fracture, and McConnehey’s injuries were unspecified.

The accident remains under investigation by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting with the crash were Adams County EMS, Preble Fire Department and the Berne Police Department.
