Mr. Stanley “Stan” R. Reed, 76 of Ossian, passed away on Friday evening, Dec. 30, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on Nov. 16, 1946, in Wabash, Ind. to Raymond C. & Jacqueline (Constable) Reed. 

Mr. Reed was a 1964 graduate of Southwood High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Huntington College in 1968, where he played collegiate basketball and baseball. He also completed his Master of Education from University of St. Francis.

Mr. Reed taught health, science, and physical education with Northern Wells Community Schools. He started at Ossian Jr-High School from 1968 to 1979 and moved to Norwell Middle School until his retirement in 2005. He coached many middle school sports over his career and was the head baseball coach at Norwell High School for 14 years.

He was a member of the Gideons International and Wells County Gideons’ Camp, and attended Emmanuel Community Church in Fort Wayne. Mr. Reed was very competitive and enjoyed playing golf, board games, cards and watching sports.

On July 20, 1968, at the Ossian Presbyterian Church, Stan and Linda D. (Martz) were married and shared the last 54 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Linda D. Reed of Ossian; son, Jeff (Heidi) Reed of Ossian; and daughter, Ranie (Chris) Jones of Gallatin, Tenn.

Stan was a loving “Pampaw” to 4 grandchildren: Liza (Chris) Lee of Ossian, Justice Reed of Fort Wayne, Eva Reed of Ossian and Weston Jones of Gallatin, Tenn., along with 3 great-grandchildren: Demi, E.J., and Nash Lee, all of Ossian.

He is also survived by 3 sisters: Sharon (John) West of Roann, Pat (Tom) Chekouras and Cheryl (Dohn) Wiley, both of Wabash; 2 brothers-in-law; Ted (Cheryl) Martz of Ossian, and Kent (Dawn) Martz of Fort Wayne.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Private family burial will take place at a later time at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ossian.

Visitation will be held for Mr. Reed from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at the funeral home.
