Joan Mendenhall, 93, of Bluffton, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 5, 2022, at River Terrace Retirement Community.

Joan was born in Bluffton on Jan. 26, 1929, to John E. and Gladys E. (Quick) Reiff. She married Eugene Mendenhall in Huntington on Sept. 5, 1953. Gene preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2017.

Joan attended Bluffton Harrison High School and Liberty Center High School. She worked in the mail room as a clerk at Caylor Nickel Clinic, retiring after 19 ½ years of service. She was a long-time member of the First Church of Christ in Bluffton, where she loved being involved in many church activities. 

After retiring, Joan and Gene loved to travel with her twin sister Joyce and her husband. She was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed her daily devotionals and reading her Bible. If she wasn’t reading, she loved watching the news.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Bollinger of Willshire, Ohio; a son, Dr. Ron Mendenhall, D.D.S. of Idaho; four grandchildren, Chelley (Kedric) LaVine-Miller, Tracey King, Jason (Cindy) Gibson, and Sonja Bisel (Doug Smith); nine great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Dan LaVine of Bluffton.

In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was preceded in death by a daughter, Nora LaVine; her twin sister, Joyce Braner; three brothers, Robert, Jack, and Verdane Reiff; a grandson, Nathan LaVine; and a son-in-law, Glen Bollinger.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, from noon until 2:00 p.m., at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, followed immediately by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Pastor Dennis Wood will be officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.
