INCIDENTS

City:

Tuesday, 2:48 p.m., EZ Bowl, 1231 South Scott St. Report of an unwanted man at the business. Officers responded, located the man about two blocks south, and warned the man for criminal trespassing at EZ Bowl. The same man was reported as a suspicious person outside of Phil’s One Stop, 1303 S. Main St., about an hour later. However before officers arrived the man had been picked up and taken to his residence.

Tuesday, 4:51 p.m., Airplane Express and Service, 407 N. Main St. Report of a man passed out in a vehicle. Wells County EMS and Bluffton police dispatched. The man was not passed out, just sleeping. He did, however, have an invalid driver’s license and the license plate on the vehicle belonged on another vehicle. He was told he would need to get a valid driver to pick him up until he could get the matter with his license and the license plate remedied.

Wednesday, 7:05 a.m., Almco Steel Products, 0059N-Oak St. Extended. Burglar alarm. Officers responded. Alarm tripped accidentally.

Tuesday, 2:16 p.m., Norwell High School, 1100E-U.S. 224. Report that an unknown man was in the building wearing a gun holster. The school was placed on lock down and multiple law enforcement units responded. The school resource officer located the man who was not wearing a holster and posed no threat to the students.

Tuesday, 4:40 p.m., Ind. 116 southeast of 400E. Caller reported that as her daughter was walking home on Ind. 116, a middle-aged fat man in a Ford F-250 pickup truck stopped and offered her daughter a ride.

Wednesday, 1:21 a.m., 450E at 1100N. While patrolling east on 1050N at 450E, a sheriff’s deputy spotted a northbound 2015 Chevrolet Malibu with no lit license plate light. The deputy pulled out, followed it and pulled it over. The driver, identified as Ra Pe, 27, Fort Wayne, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while never having been issued a driver’s license with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class A misdemeanor. Pe had two prior convictions for operating a motor vehicle while never having been issued a driver’s license  — one in Wells Superior Court and the other in Allen County Superior Court 2. Both convictions were in July of 2020.

Wednesday, 11:06 a.m., residence on Oak Road west of 400W. Caller reported discovering fraudulent charges made on the caller’s credit card.

ACCIDENTS

County:

Tuesday, 6:19 a.m., Ind. 1 at 1050N north of Ossian. Amy E. Hawkins, 37, rural Ossian, was eastbound on 1050N waiting at the intersection in her 2021 Toyota Highlander to make a northbound turn onto Ind. 1. Across the intersection from her was a Republic Services garbage truck waiting for traffic on Ind. 1 to clear to make a southbound turn onto Ind. 1. Hawkins reported that the garbage truck’s headlights made it difficult to see and she was trying to see if she and the truck could make their respective turns at the same time. At that point she pulled the Highlander into the path of a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Thomas B. Woodward, 58, rural Ossian. Upon impact, the Highlander spun around 180 degrees and ended up off the northeast side of the intersection facing west. The pickup truck traveled off the southeast side of the intersection and flushed a raccoon which it then hit. Ossian Fire Rescue and Wells County EMS were dispatched to the scene. Both drivers were checked out by medics but declined transport to the hospital. Damage exceeded $10,000.

Tuesday, 8:05 p.m., Ind. 116 southeast of 100N. Bailey A. Cueller, 24, Bluffton, hit a deer with a 2008 Ford F-350. Damage to the pickup truck was estimated at less than $1,000.

Wednesday, 7:54 a.m., Wells County 4-H Park, 1240 4-H Road. Bluffton Fire Department requested to set up a landing zone for Lutheran Air flying a 10-month-old baby transfer patient from Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

Wednesday, 12:47 p.m., Wells County 4-H Park, 1240 4-H Road. Bluffton Fire Department requested to set up a landing zone for Lutheran Air making a drop-off.
