INCIDENTS

City:

Tuesday, 2:05 p.m., resident of the 1500 block of Kensington Drive reported being tricked by a phone scammer into buying gift cards and then giving the scammer the numbers of the gift cards over the phone.

Tuesday, 5:36 p.m., Merchant Street at Western Avenue. Semi turned too sharp and ran over the stop sign and street name sign. The semi then left the scene.

Tuesday, 11:16 p.m., residence in the 1000 block of West Central Avenue. Daughter and mother in a verbal altercation. Officers responded. Situation calmed. Daughter’s boyfriend warned for criminal trespass.

Wednesday, 1:37 a.m., residence in the 200 block of West South Street. Report of a tall man in a blue rain jacket wandering in the street yelling and screaming and beating on objects. Officers responded but the man was gone.

Wednesday, 3:07 a.m., Ind. 124 in front of Fairview Cemetery. Metal box in the road creating a traffic hazard. Officer responded and removed the box.

Wednesday, 5:58 a.m., residence in the 400 block of  East Wiley Avenue. Caller reported seeing a light on in the house when no one should be there. Officers responded and checked inside but found no one.

County:

Tuesday, 5:17 p.m., report of a suspicious man on a moped near the intersection of 650E and 800N. Deputy dispatched and spoke with the man.

Tuesday, 8:33 p.m., County Home Road near 350S. Four cows in the road. Deputy responded and was able to corral the cattle and direct them back to the owner.

Wednesday, 12:54 a.m., 100S at Meridian Road. Semi missed its turn, turned too short and the trailer became hung up in the ditch, blocking the road. A wrecker service was contacted, pulled the semi out of the ditch and the semi was on its way at 2:50 a.m.  

Wednesday, 7:45 a.m., 1200N near 400W. Tree fell across the roadway. Wells County Highway Department contacted.

ACCIDENTS

City:

Saturday, 8:33 p.m., Main Street at Horton Street. Joseph O. Coty, 35, rural Bluffton, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier south on Main Street. The driver’s side windshield wiper on the vehicle didn’t work and it was raining. The car Coty was driving drifted to the left, crossed the center line and hit a northbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Douglas L. Todd, 56, rural Craigville,  head-on. Wells County EMS and Bluffton Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene but neither driver was transported to the hospital. Damage exceeded $25,000. Coty was cited for not having a windshield wiper that worked and for unsafe lane movement.

County:

Wednesday, 6:45 a.m., 950N east of 100E. Meghan M. Taylor, 21, rural Uniondale, hit a dog that ran onto the road with her 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. Damage to the car exceeded $1,000. The dog was owned by Anthony Musser, rural Ossian.

Wednesday, 9:33 a.m., 350N at the railroad crossing. Two-vehicle crash, no one hurt. No further information available.

ARRESTS

Justin Allen Walters, 38, Bluffton; incest, a Level 5 felony. Bond set at $10,000.
