It’s been another busy and exciting week at the Parks Department. Last week’s painting class, pickleball games, and Nerf Wars were a hit, not to mention how great the Simply Elton concert was last night! But the cherry on top of the week was learning that we won the LARE Grant (Lake and River Enhancement) to complete a study along the River Greenway and develop a strategy to stabilize the river bank to protect the trail. The trail counters have captured over 2,000 visitors a week, so we know our community values this area and should do all we can to protect it.
Speaking of taking care of the River Greenway, this Friday, August 5th, the National Guard has a cleaning day planned to keep the area looking pristine. We appreciate these heroes going above and beyond their duty to bless our community, especially Andrew Thompson SSG and Justin Dunaway CPT, for initiating the project they hope will be ongoing.
While I’m being thankful, I should also give a shout-out to the crew of volunteers who took time out of their day to spread mulch at the Roush Park playground. Thank you, Andrew, Myra & June Thompson; Jose, Eliana, Vincent, and Lorenzo Sanchez, along with Angie Hubble’s daycare: Autumn Smith, Sadie Vines, Ray Gonzalez, Braxton & Cayden McClough, Trace & Dallas Donahue, Brockton Osbourg, Tom McCartney, Zander Razoria and Hudson Crull. This group raked more than a semi-truck full of mulch under the play equipment!!
