Nothing but a pile of rubble is left of the two-story residence of Joel and Amanda Sawin, 5569W-Ind. 1 (just around the corner from Mount Zion) Friday afternoon. Liberty Township firefighters were paged at 12:36 p.m. and received mutual aid from Poneto, Warren, Chester Township, and Bluffton fire departments. Firefighters were on the scene for about five hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire may have started in the area around the outside electrical meter box of the residence. Amanda Sawin was home at the time of the fire. No one was injured. The Salvation Army provided hydration for the firefighters as temperatures reached 85 degrees. The American Red Cross was also called in to provide assistance for the family. The inset photo shows what the house had looked like. (Main photo by Glen Werling)
