Vaughn E. Macon, 79, of Bluffton, passed away Thursday morning, April 7, 2022, following an extended illness.

Vaughn was born in Fort Wayne March 5, 1943, to Donald I. and Margaret E. (Stewart) Macon; both parents preceded him in death. He was a 1961 graduate of Lancaster High School. Following graduation, Vaughn served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965 during the Vietnam war. 

He was an electrician for General Motors for 22 years, retiring in 2006. Vaughn worked at Corning Glass Works in Bluffton for 20 years until that plant’s closing. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton and the UAW Union in Fort Wayne. Vaughn enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching “Old Westerns,” and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He married Phyllis Schreiber on Sept. 18, 1965, in Bluffton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1997. Vaughn married Marlene Schenkel in Bluffton on Feb. 24, 1999; she survives in Bluffton. 

Additional survivors include a son, DeWayne (Kathy) Macon of Bluffton; a daughter, Lara (Rob) Burita of Columbia City; a stepdaughter, Melissa (Brad Trollinger) Gooley of Bluffton; six grandchildren, Stephanie Smith, Derek Macon, Robert Burita, Maggie Burita, Haely Beaty and Aubre Trollinger; a brother, Steve (Cathy) Macon of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and two brothers-in-law, John Craig of Oklahoma and Larry Baumgartner of Bluffton.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Macon, and two sisters, Mardonna Craig and Cherylynne Baumgartner.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Doyle Frauhiger officiating.

Burial will take place at the Six Mile Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 111 and the United States Navy Honor Guard.
