Carl R. Smallman Sr., 86, of Bluffton, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 27, 2022, at his residence.
Carl was born in Pineville, Ky., Sept. 18, 1935, to Joe Tillman Smallman and Ethel (Allen) Smallman. He married Della M. Jackson in Balkin, Ky., on Sept. 24, 1958. Della preceded him in death on June 3, 2011.
Carl graduated from Bell County High School in Kentucky and worked at Corning Glass Works for 32 years, until Corning shut down its Bluffton plant in the mid-80s. After Corning, Carl went to work at Active Products in Marion until retiring in 1998. More than anything, Carl enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Survivors include a daughter, Dee Anna Smallman of Ashley; a son, James W. Smallman of Ashley; two grandsons, Jason (Jessi) Stiffler and Adam Stiffler (fiancée Michelle English); along with two great-grandchildren, Jason Stiffler II and Angel Stiffler.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by a son, Carl R. Smallman Jr., and three brothers, Charles, Joe, and Everett Smallman.
Public visitation will be Thursday, Mar. 3, 2022, from 2 until 4 p.m., at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Per Carl’s request, a private family burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
