In the wake of his recent Primary Election loss to obtain the Republican nomination to represent Northeast Indiana in Congress, Wells County native Grant Bucher has not lost his enthusiasm. He is particularly grateful to the 2,048 people in Wells County who voted for him.

“It was extremely encouraging, certainly,” he said Thursday afternoon. He added that his showing in Wells County, which led the crowded eight-person field with 43% of the vote, “can be attributed more to my family and friends who love and serve their community well. And they advocated for me. Amazing.”

The 2008 Norwell graduate now living in Steuben County also took the top spot in Adams County with about 28% of the vote. He came in third in Jay County and fourth in Steuben, finishing in fifth place overall in the race that former Congressman Marlin Stutzman won. He has no regrets about his decision to enter the race, which has consumed his family’s life the past year in addition to maintaining a full-time job as a project manager for Weigand Construction.

He also expressed his appreciation “to everyone who jumped into this campaign to help. You know who you are.”

Bucher shared his observations in a lengthy discussion about what he learned and what he is taking away from the experience, which is included in a post-election analysis on page 4 of today’s edition.
