Wells County and the rest of northeast Indiana will be dealing with a double whammy over the next few days — a heat advisory, with heat index readings expected to be at or near 100 degrees Thursday and Friday, and an air quality alert, in effect during the day Thursday.
The National Weather Service office in North Webster, which serves northern Indiana, southern Michigan, and northwest Ohio, says that peak afternoon heat index values the next two days will be in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. That will be the case for portions of northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Wells and its surrounding counties in Indiana — 17 in all — are included in the advisory, as are four counties in Ohio.
The heat warning is in effect until midnight Friday night.
The air quality alert is in effect for Thursday for fine particulates in the air on Thursday. The alert is in effect for 24 counties in northern and northeast Indiana, including Wells and all of the counties contiguous to it.
“Levels of fine particles are expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, the NWS statement says. “Smoke from the Canadian wildfires will adversely impact air quality. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor exposure.”
