The cold weather is still upon us. I just don’t like the wind chill. Today, as I write this column, the sun is shining bright. I cannot believe it is the last day of January! Where has the month gone?
Some things are going on as usual here in town. Come on over to the Coffee Cafe weekday mornings. On Saturdays watch UPWARD basketball at the Tower Life Center gymnasium.
I am busy trying to get calls made to all those who provided activities at our Zanesville Lions Fun Festival in 2022 so that I can get an ad into the annual Car Show Calendar which is a great place to get the word out for our upcoming 2023 Festival.
This year we will be celebrating the 175th birthday of the Town of Zanesville. If you would like to help on any committee or any activity or add an activity, please let me know at 638-4327. Even a little bit of your time will be appreciated.
I am tentatively setting up a meeting to be held at the Zanesville Lion’s Clubhouse on Monday evening, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. Invited will be anyone interested in helping with this celebration. We will serve a light supper at 6:30 and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
This year we are partnering with the Town of Zanesville and they will be co-sponsors of the day. So far the Zanesville Community Church of God will be providing food on Friday, July 28, at the church while their garage sale is open. They will also have their usual sausage breakfast/brats and onion rings at the ballpark on Saturday, July 29. Garage sales will be open all day Friday and Saturday. The Lion’s Club will sponsor its car show that ends at 2 p.m. and then the McCoys will stay over to host a hula hoop contest and supervise some line dancing (etc.) at the Tower Life Center Church.
I am still waiting on word from some sponsors for the free horse and wagon ride and for the kiddy ride. As of now, the parade is on and we will be in contact with the Walker Family descendants asking them to be in the parade. We are also seeking a sponsor for prizes for the parade. Floats will need to be based on the birthday of Zanesville and the year of 1848. There is no entry price for the parade.
We hope to have vending and craft booths and maybe old-time campers. The ever lasting ZumStiks will be on hand also.
Other items to talk about adding to the day are bands, singers, old time baseball, a cemetery walk, Little Miss-Mister Contest and a style show.
If you are interested in helping with this birthday project with a donation to the Festival Fund you can send your donation to the Town of Zanesville or the Zanesville Lions Club and earmark it for the festival.
As you pass through Zanesville please read the speed limit signs and slow down! I just read some of the reports from the speed checks posted here the last few months of 2022 and thousands of speeders passed through town on the main streets. Be careful.

Many, many houses were decorated and we commend you all for taking the time and effort to make the holidays so festive. We know that decorating at your house was done by various family members and we thank you all! This is our 27th annual contest and we hope to have more lights to judge next year and more prizes to hand out. Thank you so much, Zanesville Lions and surrounding community
Those listed as cash winners will receive a check and the others a token of our appreciation.
